Google has announced that Android users can now share files via AirDrop to iPhone users, but there is a catch.
“Today, we’re introducing a way for Quick Share to work with AirDrop. This makes file transfer easier between iPhones and Android devices, and starts rolling out today to the Pixel 10 family,” Google said in a post.
This automatically makes the Pixel 10 line of smartphones the most iPhone-like in the Android system, not forgetting their Mag-Safe-like Qi2 charging capabilities.
This is a big move by Google to make sharing between Pixels and iPhone users easy and accessible. AirDrop is one of the best iOS features due to its ease of use in the Apple ecosystem, and this move is welcome.
Google says that this was a request made by many people who wanted a simpler way to share files between devices.
Sharing files from the Pixel 10 devices to an iPhone via AirDrop is easy. Go to Quick Share, select the file to share, set the iPhone to ‘receive AirDrop from everyone, tap on the specific iPhone to share the file with on the Pixel 10 device, and hit ‘accept’ on the iPhone.

The company was quick to point out that this was done with security at its core.
“We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts. It’s just one more way we’re bringing better compatibility that people are asking for between operating systems, following our work on RCS and unknown tracker alert,” they added.
You may be wondering whether they will add this cool feature to more Android devices. Google says that they are ‘looking forward to improving the experience and expanding it to more Android devices,” so we have to wait and see. We will also have to wait and see how Apple responds to this.
