WhatsApp, the much-loved messaging service is working on an optional premium subscription plan.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on WhatsApp Plus, an optional subscription plan with extra features. This reminds me of what we have with Telegram Premium.

The publication notes that WhatsApp Plus has a few additions for a fee. This includes several customization options to change the app theme, app icon and accent colours. Another premium feature includes pinning up to 20 chats instead of the standard limit for 3, which can be useful to some people. There is also a set of exclusive ringtones which users can personalize calling notifications and help distinguish between WhatsApp and other apps.
WABetaInfo notes that the subscription plan is expected to include more features over time like exclusive stickers and more interactive reactions to messages. They did not confirm pricing of this new test or an official launch date, but we will definitely be on the lookout for it.
Apparently, WhatsApp Plus is completely optional so this does not mean Meta will force you to a subscription to enjoy WhatsApp. The rest of the features that you enjoy now will still remain free and accessible. What I see from this subscription plan is offering some users a way to customize further their WhatsApp experience for a small fee each month.
WhatsApp testing WhatsApp Plus reminds me of Telegram Premium and Snapchat+. Telegram Premium charges from $4 upwards and allows people to have doubled limits on various features, 4G file uploads, voice to text, automatic archiving, accessing unique stickers, animated profile pictures, no ads and more. Snapchat+ is $3,99 and offers extra customization options, fewer ads, story rewatch indicators, story timestamps, Snapchat+ badge, AI tools, replaying snaps, Bitmoji pets, pinning best friends and more. We see this as a move by them to keep up with its competitors.
