Facebook Lite, the social networking giant’s stripped down application targeted at users in emerging markets where cellular data is expensive and access to the internet is limited, is the company’s fastest-growing app. 9 months after its June 2015 launch, the app had already amassed over 100 million daily active users.
On the Google Play Store, it has been downloaded over 100 million times, a no mean feat achievement.
Just recently, Facebook announced that Facebook Lite had 200 million users.
Facebook Lite’s mission, is to provide the Facebook experience without taking up much space on a user’s device, to work on all networks even 2G ones, to use less data, load quickly and work on pretty much every available Android phone. As impressive as that may sound, it can also be limiting.
Users of the Facebook Lite app don’t get to enjoy features accessible to users of the bloated main app like Instant Articles, fast-loading news articles from publishers across the world, Reactions, the Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad or Angry options that one can use to react to a status update, photo or video among other features. For the latter, Reactions, that changes today as Facebook is currently rolling out the feature to Facebook Lite users around the world so that they can also join in the fun.
Reactions can be accessed by long pressing the Like button.
