Normally, towards the end of the year, some time in October or thereabouts, we usually get to see Tecno release its flagship smartphone. However, as we’ve known for a while now, that ain’t happening this year.
So, what do we get in place of a Phantom this year?
The Tecno Camon 11, it appears. Again, this is not the first time we’re hearing that name mentioned.
The naming scheme is in line with the last member of Tecno’s camera-centred Camon series that we got to see earlier on in the year, the Camon X where the X, in this case, just like the one in iPhone X, can now be interpreted to have stood for the numeral 10, since we all called it “ex”, anyway.
While we may not know much about the Camon 11 at this point, or even if it’s a given that there will be two variants of the same – a standard model and a “Pro” or “Plus” model as has been the case in recent years (much as the teaser image above hints as much), we just know for a fact that Tecno will likely be looking to disturb the peace in the budget camera phone segment with its offering.
Of course, it goes without saying that there will be… a notch.
Bar the Camon CM unveiled at the very start of 2018 and the Camon X and Camon X Pro that followed it a few months later, Tecno hasn’t had other high-profile device releases this year. There’s been the silent local rollout of the Chinese brand’s F series smartphones which are powered by Android Go and the endurance champ Pouvoir 2. Of course, in between there’s been yet another Android Go device, the Tecno Spark 2.
In the meantime, there’s been increased activity in the budget smartphone segment from Tecno’s market rivals like Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo, something that Tecno will likely be looking to overturn with the Camon 11 as it looks forward to the continued hold of its status as the top smartphone brand not just in the country but across the entire continent of Africa.
We expect pre-orders for the device to open as early as November 12th in Tecno brand stores and Telkom Kenya outlets across the country.
What do you think will be the price of the Tecno Camon 11?
