18th April only: Buy one Neon Ray smartphone on Masoko and get another free
FacebookTwitterWhatsApp

If you are looking for a dirt cheap smartphone, there is no shortage of options at your disposal.

There’s quite a lot to choose from. itel has devices selling for less than Kshs 5,000. Safaricom has, since last year, had the Neon Kicka staying put at Kshs 3,500 for anyone just starting out their smartphone journey or in need of a second device that doesn’t leave a dent in their pockets. Heck, if you can just double that amount then you can grab our favourite at this moment, Xiaomi’s Redmi Go.

So, yeah, you only have yourself to blame for showing up to an Easter party empty-handed.

As if that is not enough, on April 18th, Masoko has a buy one get one offer on the Safaricom Neon Ray smartphone. Anyone buying the device on Safaricom’s e-commerce platform on the said date will get another for free.

Now, there’s nothing breathtaking about the Neon Ray. It is another Android Go smartphone, a new one at that and one of the latest from Safaricom. What sets it apart, though, is that while the Neon Kicka 4 introduces Safaricom’s 3G experience to buyers, it also does the same but for 4G, making it one of the most affordable ways to experience 4G LTE in the country.

It has a slightly bigger screen than the Kicka (5-inch), slightly better cameras (5MP on the back, 2MP on the front) slightly bigger battery (2,000mAh) but, like every other Android Go smartphone out there, maintains the same memory (1GB) and storage configurations (8GB). The latter was a very frustrating experience when I took the Neon Kicka 4 for a spin last year and that should be almost the same case this time round even though the storage has been doubled.

The Neon Ray can be had for Kshs 4,000. Safaricom is including some free 1GB data bundle with the purchase as well.
