Safaricom has just unveiled VoLTE, a product that’s aimed at the millions who already enjoy the company’s speedy 4G LTE network across the country. The feature will allow users of the network to place HD-quality voice and video calls over the internet, which is something that only JTL’s Faiba 4G has been offering in the country.

Update
While the new Samsung Galaxy A smartphones are VoLTE-ready, flagship smartphones current and old that Samsung has been selling locally like the Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, S9+, Note 8, Note 9 and those in the Galaxy S10 family will be receiving software updates soon to enable VoLTE, according to a statement from Samsung Electronics East Africa.
A statement from HMD Global notes, “VoLTE will only function when in 4G/LTE coverage, however it is important to note that the device will automatically switch back to the older 2G and 3G technologies when necessary to enable a seamless experience. A customer on VoLTE can call a customer on a non-VoLTE device, or who is not in 4G/LTE coverage, and vice versa however.”
