HMD Global is lining up successors to the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 6.1 handsets that arrived in Kenya in 2018. Christened Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2, details of these two are now beginning to show up in Leaksland suggesting that works on them are already underway.
According to tipster Roland Quandt, the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 6.2 will have identical external designs. As a result, these two will fit into each other’s cases perfectly. Given their name differences, though, it means the pair will probably be separated by their internal configurations, including those of the camera, but these details are still murky.
Looks like Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 will fit the exact same cases.
Identical outer design, internal differences?— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) July 15, 2019
Earlier this year, alleged specs of the Nokia 6.2 leaked online pointing to a 6.2-inch display screen with a camera hole punch, Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, 4/6GB RAM, a 16MP dual-lens Carl Zeiss camera and OZO audio technology.
Granted, the Nokia 7.2 should get a significantly upgraded processor well above the Snapdragon 632 in the Nokia 6.2 and Snapdragon 636 that powers the Nokia 7.1. If anything, we could see the Nokia X71 released in China in April 2019 arrive locally as the Nokia 7.2.
The Nokia X71 comes with a 6.2-inch 1080p display screen with a camera hole punch housing a 16MP selfie shooter while the back has a tri-lens 48MP + 8MP + 5MP camera and a fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, the X71 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC allied to 6GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage.
Android 9 Pie runs the show out of the box and keeping it alive is a 3500mAh battery unit that is charged via a USB-C port with support for 18W fast battery charging technology.
