There is a new Oppo A5s software update now available to download for model CPH1909. Arriving as version CPH1909EX_11_A.26, the OTA update is here to improve the security of the A5s, fix bugs, as well as optimize performance.
The Oppo A5s was unveiled in April 2019 as a successor to the Oppo A5 from the year before. The phone got rid of the huge display notch on the A5 in favor of the more appealing waterdrop-style notch. It also picked up a fingerprint scanner, although the Indian variant of the A5 still had one.

As disappointing as it can ever get, the Oppo A5s came preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo and ColorOS 5.2 on top. At a time when Android Q beta was already doing rounds, it’s was unacceptable for Oppo to release a device with a 2-year-old OS.
To make it worse, the A5s is unlikely to receive an update that installs Android Pie, which is just too unfortunate for people who bought this phone. On the brighter side, though, it seems Oppo isn’t about to give up on the A5s as far as Android security updates are concerned.
As of this writing, the August security update is already available for download on the Oppo A5s. The firmware can be downloaded manually via this link for those who want to install it right away, but you’d rather wait for the OTA download notification to arrive.
Below is the full changelog:
– Android security patch of August 2019 added in this update, improving system reliability.
– New – TouchPal keyboard uninstall entrance
Also part of the Oppo A5s August security update is the option to uninstall TouchPal keyboard. By default, all Oppo phones have the TouchPal keyboard as the go-to input method, but after this August update, you can remove it and download a keyboard you prefer.

Also receiving the latest August security patch is the Oppo A83. The update is arriving as version CPH1729EX_11_A.29 for both the 2GB RAM and 3/4GB RAM variants of the device. The A83 was unveiled in early 2018 and is still on Android Nougat, so it’s great to see it receive the August security patch.
Heres the changelog:
New Android security patch of August 2019 to improve system security
Similar to the A5s, the update is arriving on the A83 as an OTA, but you can grab the ROM for the 3/4GB variant from this link and for the 2GB RAM variant from this link and install it manually on your device via recovery mode.
If you own the original Oppo A71 from 2017, the August security patch is arriving as version CPH1717EX_11_A.23 and similar to the other two, you can already grab the download file via this link and install the update manually, at least if you know how this works.
