Google announced last year that they were able to reverse engineer the ability for Android devices to AirDrop to Apple devices. They promised that this will be available to more devices outside the Pixel line, and now we have the full list.
Android devices that support AirDrop
- Samsung Galaxy S26 series
- Google Pixel 10 series, 9 series, 8A
- OPPO Find X9 series, Find N6
- Vivo X300 Ultra
Android devices that will soon suport AirDop
- Samsung Galaxy S25 series, S24 series, Z Flip7, Z Fold7, Z Flip6, Z Fold6, Z TriFold
- OPPO Find X8 series
- OnePlus 15
- HONOR Magic V6, Magic8 Pro
This list is pretty thin considering how large the Android ecosystem is. You may be wondering why Google is not rolling out AirDrop support to more devices. Apparently, the reason is that the compatibility needs chipset level support and networking optimizations to mimic Apple’s Wireless Direct Link technology.
From what we can see, Google is only supporting recent flagship phones outside their Pixel line for a start. There are a number of notable exemptions. For starters, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Flip 5, Galaxy Fold 5 and even their midrange A,F and M lines are absent. Their Tab A and Tab S lines are absent which is also quite strange. This is also the same for the other brands like OPPO, Honor and vivo which have conspicuously missing former flagships and mid-rangers.
We should give time for Google and these manufacturers to sort out the issues regarding AirDrop support on Android. This may improve in the future as software and hardware optimizations are made.
