After a pre-order period, the vivo Y500 is finally available for purchase in the Kenyan market.
The smartphone, announced just a few weeks ago, brings with it the biggest battery device maker vivo has ever put on a smartphone with its 8,100mAh BlueVolt battery unit. vivo says that this is “the largest battery currently available in a smartphone in Kenya”.
It arrives running OriginOS 6, the successor to FunTouch OS, vivo’s previous custom take on Android. OriginOS 6 is based on Android 16. vivo replaced FunTouch OS with OriginOS globally late last year. Previously, it had been available exclusively to devices released for the Chinese market.
One of OriginOS’s unique features, Privacy System, which is also available on the Y500, allows users greater control over the private information available on their devices, letting them store private files and photos separately from the rest and even allowing them to use different fingerprints from the ones used to access everything else.
A 50-megapixel main camera sensor paired with an auxiliary lens takes care of all things photography and videography at the back while a 32-megapixel sensor adorns the front. Both of these can be used for underwater photography and filming since the Y500 enjoys IP68 and IP69 water and dust protection.
A Unisoc T7300 chipset, 256GB onboard storage, an underdisplay fingerprint sensor, MIL-STD-810H military grade shock resistance and the stylish metallic frame round up the set of impressive specs of the vivo Y500.
The device comes in Silk White and Midnight Blue colour options. It is priced at Kshs 44,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and Kshs 49,999 for its 8GB RAM counterpart.
Those who pre-ordered the device during the World Cup-inspired pre-order campaign can now pick up their devices and enjoy the basket of goodies that vivo was offering then.
