One of HMD Global’s top smartphones this year, the Nokia 8.1, is the first Nokia smartphone to receive the Android 10 update.
According to HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, the rollout of the device’s update is currently underway.
The Nokia 8.1 has been part of the few smartphones that were enrolled in the beta testing phase of Android 10.
In a previous message sent to developers and users running the beta software builds on their devices a few days ago, HMD Global made it known that only devices running the latest beta software, Android 10 Beta 5 build V4.070 or V5.070, would get the push notification to update to the final software over-the-air.
Other users can expect a push notification inviting them to upgrade their devices as soon as the update is available. The update can be expected to hit Nokia smartphones in Kenya anytime between Friday, 11th October, and Monday, 14th October.
Android 10 brings with it several new features including a system-wide dark mode, enhanced parent controls, privacy-centred controls like MAC address randomization and granting of permissions to apps on a needs basis, full gesture-based navigation among others like this, this and this.
HMD Global, which holds the crown for being the most consistent Android device maker when it comes to providing software updates to its devices, plans to update all of the smartphones it has announced over the last 2 years.
The Nokia 8.1 is expected to be joined on the Android 10 table later this month by the flagship Nokia 9 PureView, the Nokia 7.1 and, maybe, just maybe, the Nokia 7.2 that hadn’t been released when the company’s update roadmap was revealed.
