The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is the latest Huawei smartphone to receive its Android 10 upgrade.
The update, which arrives by way of EMUI 10, the Chinese company’s customized take on Android 10 that refines features introduced in previous versions of the software like the EMUI 9.1 that the Y9 Prime 2019 ran, clocks in at just over 3 gigabytes.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 thanks to an impressive feature set that includes a pop-up selfie camera, a beefy 4,000mAh battery, plenty of storage space (128GB) and sleek design backed by competitive pricing, was easily one of the best budget smartphones one could buy in the country last year,
The device received its EMUI 9.1 update only half a year ago.
EMUI 10 on the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 brings with it a system-wide dark mode, which can be toggled on and off from the “Display & brightness” section of the settings app, a new colour scheme, an updated gallery app as well as an updated Digital Wellbeing (Huawei calls it Digital Balance) experience in line with the updates Google has introduced with Android 10 to include child smartphone screen time management when it is a child using the device.
Other EMUI 10 changes include faster performance thanks to the boost that the new file system that Huawei introduced in EMUI 9.1 gets.
Unfortunately, the EMUI 10 update the device is receiving is bundled with an already dated security patch: that from November 2019.
If you’re in Kenya and haven’t yet received the update, launch the HiCare application on your phone and be sure to set your region correctly to Kenya then go to the settings app and refresh the update checker. That should yield positive results.
