Infinix unveils Kenyan band Sauti Sol as brand ambassadors

Infinix has announced the signing of Kenyan Afro-pop band Sauti Sol as its new brand ambassadors.

“The Grammy award-winning band will be featured in a new integrated campaign for Infinix which will run across TV, print and online channels and in-store,” a statement from the brand reads, in part.

According to the statement, the choice of Sauti Sol as brand ambassadors is informed by the band’s youth focus.

“They are the very embodiment of why young people should make their own way through life regardless of the challenges they face along the way,” Infinix’s brand manager for Kenya Mike Zhang is quoted saying.

The announcement comes at a time that the company is gearing up to launch its next Note smartphone, a successor to last year’s Infinix Note 8.

Since the year started, the company has introduced additional members to its Hot 10 smartphone series, which it launched last year, with the Hot 10 Play and the Hot 10T making their way to the local market. The upcoming Note (we can assume Note 9) announcement will be the first major announcement from Infinix this year. The local announcement and launch of the device is said to be taking place along the Kenyan coast later this month.

According to an IDC quarterly report released late last year, Infinix and sister brands Tecno and itel accounted for over 40% of the 23 million smartphones shipped to the continent in the third quarter of 2020 at a time when the phone market in Africa, like in the rest of the world, had contracted due to the lasting effects of the pandemic.

Since its launch, Infinix has grown its portfolio from youth-focused smartphones to accessories (including wearables) and, now, televisions and laptop computers.

Last year, Infinix partnered with fashion designer Sally Karogo for the launch of its flagship smartphone, the Infinix Zero 8.

Sister brand Tecno recently announced American actor Chris Evans as its global ambassador.
