Late last week, Xiaomi announced that the Redmi Note 12 series will be finally coming to the international market on March 23. Fast-forward to today, the China-based company has now announced a new member to the Redmi 12 series, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, which will be released to the Chinese market on March 28 at 7 PM Beijing time.
Interestingly, the device will only be available in China upon its release, until later in the year when it makes its way to the international market under a different name, POCO F5. Right off the bat, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo becomes the most powerful variant in the Note 12 series, spotting the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset compared to the Note 12 Pro+ which packs the less powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset.
Despite not listing the price, the Note 12 Turbo should be a sizeable chunk more expensive than its siblings, largely due to the chipset that powers it. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 has put up highly impressive benchmark scores, and it is very close to being a high-end chip. It has basically matched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 produced by Samsung.
In the teaser poster on Xiaomi’s Weibo account, The Redmi Note 12 Turbo has a white and silver finish. At the back, Three camera cutouts stand out, with the main unit having 64 MP written next to it. As has been the trend for Redmi, the device appears to have dual speakers at the top and bottom, a headphone jack, a USB-C port for charging and an IR blaster.
While the company has not listed the official specs for the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, various leaks indicate the complete main camera setup will feature a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP sensor for macro shots
The device will run MIUI 14, based on Android 13. The display will feature a 6.7-inch OLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. Other rumoured specifications include 67 W fast charging and a 5,000 mAh battery.
Why the Redmi Note 12 Turbo will be called the POCO F5 in the international market is impossible to tell. However, it might just be down to the fact that it will be significantly faster and more powerful than the rest of the Redmi Note 12 series
