The Nokia G20 is currently receiving its upgrade to Android 13 in Kenya.
The smartphone which was launched back in mid-2021, arrived running Android 11 with a promise to get a bump up to the then-upcoming Android 12. It has since made the jump to Android 12 and it’s now time to move to what is likely its last major Android version: 13.
The Android 13 update for the Nokia G20 started rolling out in various markets last week and, now, Tech Arena reports that the same is available to users of the device in Kenya.
The Nokia G20 becomes the fifth Nokia smartphone to receive Android 13. This is after the Nokia XR20 5G, Nokia X10 5G, Nokia G50 5G and Nokia X20 5G. The X20 was part of the Android 13 preview test devices.
Given that Nokia doesn’t do much in customizing the (Google) Android experience, the Android 13 update on the Nokia G20 is pretty much a rundown of everything one can expect to get on their device with the update.
That includes the need for apps to request to send notifications to the notification dropdown and the lock screen, new media controls that put the album art and controls in the dropdown, the Photo Picker feature that allows users to grant access to apps to access just certain apps and not the entire gallery and the ability to have just about any installed app mimicking the system-wide colour theme and wallpaper colour.
The update clocks in at just under 2GB and comes with the March security update.
The Nokia G20’s sibling, the Nokia G10, is also receiving the Android 13 update in various markets. We have no confirmation of that update’s availability to users of the device in the country.
According to the latest statistics, Android 13 runs on over 12% of all Android devices.
