Samsung unveiled a range of new camera features and enhancements as part of the Galaxy S24 series. The three phones in this lineup boast faster processors equipped with robust NPUs to support these innovative camera functionalities. Naturally, whenever a new line of devices is unveiled, some of the debuting features trickle down to older models with time. In line with this, certain camera features introduced with the Galaxy S24 series will also be extended to existing Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
While Samsung did not disclose the list of Galaxy S24 camera features coming to older Galaxy phones during the launch event, we now have these details courtesy of a list Samsung published in the official South Korea community forum. But before we dive into the juicy details, be warned that the initial posts are in Korean and since I’m relying on Google Translate, some meanings may be lost in the translations.
-
Motion Photos transformation
The Galaxy S24 can transform any frame from a Motion Photo into a high-resolution 12MP still image using AI-based upscaling. Additionally, Motion Photos enable the creation of artistic long-exposure versions of images. But it’s worth noting that Motion Photos do not work with Nightography, meaning you’ll have to disable this feature for low-light conditions by clicking the Moon-shaped icon located in the bottom right corner of the screen. Samsung has indicated that the One UI 6.1 update will bring this feature to older devices, namely the Galaxy S22 series, S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, and Tab S9 series.

Continuity in Samsung Studio video editing
The revamped Samsung Studio, formerly the built-in video editor app on Samsung devices, introduces new features such as variable speed adjustments at different parts of a video. Users can initiate video editing on one device, such as a phone, and seamlessly continue the process on another Galaxy device, like a laptop or tablet. This functionality will be rolled out to select devices with the One UI 6.1 update, with specific device names yet to be disclosed.
- Enhanced image and video quality on social media apps:
The Galaxy S24’s advanced camera features, including Super HDR for images and videos, are now extended to social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat. Furthermore, HDR images and videos captured within these apps can be viewed in HDR. Exclusive advanced camera features, such as noise removal in low-light video conditions, EIS for video stabilization, and advanced scene recognition, will be available when capturing content through Samsung’s new UniHAL+ structure. Notably, this UniHAL+ structure alongside with the HDR viewing function for photos will not be compatible with devices predating the Galaxy S24. On the other hand, the HDR viewing ability for videos will be introduced to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 5 with the One UI 6.1 update.
- Improved Single Take
The upgraded Single Take camera mode on the Galaxy S24 allows users to select the preferred camera (ultrawide, primary, 3x zoom, 5x zoom, or 10x zoom) before capturing images and videos. This enhanced version also includes pet recognition for improved images and videos of animals. The One UI 6.1 update will bring this new Single Take feature to various devices, including the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Z Flip 4 and 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 4 and 5.
- Space zoom
The Galaxy S24 lets you capture distant views from a far with the groundbreaking Quad-telephoto camera, boasting true 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x optical zoom thanks to its new 50MP lens. But if crave epic close-ups, the AI-powered 100x Space Zoom intelligently unlocks a universe of hidden wonders, delivering vibrant detail even at astronomical distances. This feature, like others on this list, will reportedly come to select older Galaxy devices namely the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
