Samsung’s newest foldable flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, is a refinement of its predecessor, focusing on enhancing key features that users love.
Like the Flip 5, the star of the show remains the 3.4-inch “FlexWindow” cover display, but this time Samsung has added new widgets and features through the One UI 6.1.1 update, such as AI-powered “Suggested replies” for messages, “Photo Ambient” for dynamic wallpapers, and “Interactive Wallpaper” with playful 3D characters.
While the cover display’s size and refresh rate remain unchanged, it can now display multiple widgets at once. The inner display has a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel at 120Hz.
The Flip 6 also boasts a significant camera upgrade. It replaces the 12MP sensor used in previous models with a 50MP sensor, promising better image quality and improved zoom capabilities. The secondary 12MP ultrawide sensor remains, and the “FlexCam” feature now includes “AutoZoom” for automatic framing.
Battery life gets a boost with the largest battery ever in a Flip series phone. The 4,000 mAh battery is 8.1% bigger than the 3700 mAh unit in the Flip 5. Couple this with the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and it should translate to a noticeable improvement in longevity. Surprisingly, the Flip 6 is thinner than the Flip 5 despite the larger battery, measuring 14.9mm when closed. There are similar design changes on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 too.
All Flip 6 models come with 12GB of RAM, with storage options starting at 256 GB. Other features, such as the fingerprint sensor and overall weight, remain unchanged. However, the Flip 6 now has an IP48 rating, indicating improved water resistance.
Following the lead of the Galaxy S24 series, the Flip 6 will receive seven years of Android and security updates, starting with Android 15 before the year ends.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be available in some markets starting July 24th, with pre-orders open now. It starts at Kshs 147,999 and comes in several colors, including Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue, and Mint, with exclusive options like Crafted Black, White, and Peach available in some markets.
