Google is giving Android users another way to share their real-time location, this time through the Find My Device app. The feature lets users share their live location with trusted contacts, making it easier to coordinate meetups or check if a loved one got home safely.
Unlike the existing location-sharing option in Google Maps, this feature taps into the Find My Device network, which may offer better accuracy and speed. Users will have full control over their shared location, deciding who gets access and for how long. Google also says the app will send regular reminders about ongoing location sharing, ensuring privacy remains a priority.

The new feature will be available on Android 9+ devices in select countries for age-eligible users, but it looks like users may have to wait for an app update before it rolls out. Once available, it will live alongside Find My Device’s core function of tracking lost or misplaced gadgets.
With Apple expanding Find My capabilities and Samsung’s SmartThings Find gaining traction, Google’s move makes a lot of sense. Now, Android users can rely on a single app for both finding missing devices and keeping tabs on friends and family — all while maintaining control over their data.
