Huawei holds a 14% share of the Kenyan smartphone market.

This is according to information revealed during the launch of the company’s latest smartphone in the Kenyan market, the GR5 (2017), at an event in Nairobi on Wednesday evening.

Huawei has for the last 2 years been angling for a 25% share of the Kenyan smartphone market but has had to withstand stiff competition from other Chinese brands Tecno and Infinix. This year, it has an even more ambitious target: 50% market share.

By focusing on the mid-range category with devices like the GR5 (2017), Huawei will surely be hoping to change that.

The company has been releasing, in a timely manner, all its devices in the Kenyan market; from the high-end ones like the P9 and Mate 9 to entry-level ones in its Y-series.

Globally, Huawei has 8.9% smartphone market share according to Gartner.
