When it comes to the latest updates, Android device makers have always prioritised not just their latest devices but also their most precious ones. This means that the more expensive and recent a device is, the higher the likelihood of it being remembered when its maker starts releasing the latest software updates that bring with them newer Android builds.
As such, it must have come as a nice little surprise to Galaxy S5 mini users when an Android 6.0 update started hitting their devices. The Galaxy S5 mini is neither a high-end device nor a recent model (it was launched way back in June 2014 after all!).
According to reports, users of the device in certain regions, most notably Europe, are receiving the Android Marshmallow update, over a year since Samsung delivered to them the device’s last major update, Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Marshmallow update will be the Galaxy S5 mini’s last upgrade to a newer version of Android as the device has already gone past the 2-year support window that most Samsung devices enjoy. Android Marshmallow may not be the latest version of Android there is out there (hello Nougat!) but what a way for the Galaxy S5 mini to bow out!
