If you have a Valentines day date then the Uber app on your Android smartphone might as well be a lifesaver. This is because Uber is giving out 50% discount on up to two rides to all its Kenyan users on 14th February, the day where love is celebrated universally.
Kenyan users? Yes. That’s because the said offer has much to do with Tuesday the 14th being the final day of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s voter registration drive in readiness for Kenya’s upcoming general election. As such, Uber is providing a way for those who are yet to register to dash to their polling stations and do so before the exercise ends. Since it also happens to be Valentines day, they are killing two birds with one stone.
How to go about it:
- Open the Uber app installed on your Android device (or iPhone) – if you’ve never used Uber before then you can always get it from the Play Store
- Open the hamburger (☰) menu and click Payment
- Click on Add Promo/Gift Code
- Key in 254LOVE
- Done! Go ahead and hail an Uber and enjoy the 50% discount.
As with all freebies, there is a catch. The discount fare is up to Kshs 1,500. Anything more than that and you are on your own. Also, the promo code must be keyed in before hailing an Uber cab.
