We’ve known for a while that Samsung will soon introduce a series of new Galaxy A smartphones into the Kenyan market. We didn’t know much about local pricing and availability as well as the exact names of the Galaxy A devices to expect, at least until now.
As of this writing, we have our eyes on these details. Jumia Kenya has already teased the Samsung Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30, Galaxy A50, and Galaxy A70, although the retailer is still toying around with their purchase links.
Just so you know, these are the devices that are here to replace the popular Galaxy J series and from the look of things, Samsung is coming out guns blazing right at the likes of Tecno, Infinix, Huawei, and Xiaomi as far as the budget smartphone segment is concerned.
That said, here’s a quick rundown of what you get with each of these phones.
Samsung Galaxy A10
The Galaxy A10 is the entry-level model in the new A series, which also makes it modest on specs. The device is curved from a plastic material and on the front it has glass. Like others in this post, the A10’s display has a waterdrop-style notch that Samsung calls Infinity V.
Specs
- 6.2-inch LCD screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, HD+ (720×1520) resolution
- Exynos 7884 processor
- 2GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage (512GB)
- 13MP main camera
- 5MP front camera
- 3400mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB port, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, GPS, Wi-Fi hotspot, etc.
You can already pre-order the Galaxy A10 for Sh 11,999 on Jumia Kenya: Blue version or Black version.
Samsung Galaxy A20
The Galaxy A20 picks up what the Galaxy A10 has and improves on it, but it also borrows some aspects of its cheaper counterpart. The Infinity V display is bigger. The back gets a second camera lens for ultra-wide shots (123 degrees) as well as a fingerprint scanner. The battery capacity has also grown bigger, but the processor is the same as the A10.
Specs
- 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, HD+ (720×1520) resolution
- Exynos 7884 processor
- 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage (512GB)
- Dual-lens 13MP + 5MP main camera
- 8MP front camera
- 4000mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, 15W fast charging, Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, etc.
The Galaxy A20 has been listed on Jumia Kenya priced at Sh 16,999.
Samsung Galaxy A30
While the Galaxy A20 is definitely a great phone, it’s with the Galaxy A30 that things start getting juicier. The plastic body keeps its place from the A30, but this time, the front Super AMOLED glass panel has protection from Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The screen also has a better resolution, but the same size as the A20.
Given its costlier than the A20, the Galaxy A30 has superior hardware on the inside as well as better cameras to further justify the price tag.
Specs
- 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, FHD+ (1080×2340) resolution
- Exynos 7904 processor
- 3GB or 4GB RAM
- 32GB or 64GB expandable storage (512GB)
- Dual-lens 16MP + 5MP main camera
- 16MP front camera
- 4000mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, 15W fast charging, Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, etc.
The Galaxy A30 can be pre-ordered for Sh 22,499 on Jumia Kenya.
Samsung Galaxy A50
The Galaxy A50 is the one that sits in the middle of the high-end and entry-level variants in the new Galaxy A series. It has both sides of the world, yet still manages to keep a decent price tag.
Not to make you feel left out simply because you can’t afford the Galaxy S10s of this world, the Galaxy A50 packs a tri-lens camera too. As if that’s not enough, the A50 goes further to include an under-display fingerprint scanner, a feature that’s popular in phones priced north of Sh 50,000. Heck, even Samsung Galaxy S10e and its Sh 70K price tag lacks one of these, which speaks volumes about what Samsung is out here to do.
Here are the rest of the specs.
Specs
- 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, FHD+ (1080×2340) resolution
- Exynos 9610 processor
- 4GB or 6GB RAM
- 64GB or 128GB expandable storage (512GB)
- Tri-lens 25MP + 8MP + 5MP main camera
- 25MP front camera
- 4000mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, 15W fast charging, Under-display fingerprint scanner, etc.
The Galaxy A50 is going for Sh 27,999 on Jumia Kenya.
Samsung Galaxy A70
By now you must have realized that the higher you go, the better it becomes. Well, if you thought the Galaxy A50 was the real deal, meet the Galaxy A70. It’s bigger in size owing to the massive 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, a fit for those who no longer find a compelling Android tablet on the market.
It has a tri-lens camera array on the back, but only retains the 8MP ultra-wide lens and 5MP depth-sensing lens from the A50. The standard lens is a whopping 32MP, which is the same megapixel count found on the front-facing camera.
A bigger screen is good and all until battery life matters come into play. To address this, the A70 packs an even bigger 4500mAh battery unit alongside the fastest battery charging tech found in any Samsung phone to date. BTW, this – 25W fast battery charging – is also found in the Galaxy S10 5G model that you and I may never get to see.
Specs
- 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, FHD+ (1080×2400) resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor
- 6GB or 8GB RAM
- 128GB expandable storage (512GB)
- Tri-lens 32MP + 8MP + 5MP main camera
- 32MP front camera
- 4500mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, 25W fast charging, Under-display fingerprint scanner, etc.
We still don’t have pricing details of the Galaxy A70, but purchase links for the other phones recently went live on Jumia Kenya, with availability set for April 18th.
