Those still hanging onto their Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 handsets have one more thing to smile about before we begin the second half of 2019.
Arriving as software version A520FXXSBCSF2, the Galaxy A5 2017 is now receiving the latest Android security update for June 2019. This update is based on Android Oreo and is currently available over the air.
The Galaxy A5 2017, despite being a midrange from, well, 2017, is still receiving regular security updates on a monthly basis alongside the likes of Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9.
In fact, the A5 2017 has received the June update in Kenya ahead of Samsung’s latest darlings, but we know who has the bragging rights. As usual, the update also brings system-wide bug fixes and much-needed stability improvements for the aging handset.
This is an over-the-air (OTA) update and normally, such updates take time before all units get the download notification. Given the firmware went live only yesterday, the update should come your way later this week or maybe even early next week.
Alternatively, you can try forcing your device to download the update manually by heading to Settings > About phone > Software update > Download and install the update manually.
