Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy M52 5G, the most powerful offering in its M series of smartphones.

The M series were introduced by Samsung back in 2019 as an answer to the growing popularity of budget smartphones offered by Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei and Xiaomi, just to name a few.

The M series marked the end of the Samsung Galaxy J series as Samsung’s entry level line up. In Samsung’s hierarchy, the M series would fall just behind the A series, which are targeted mostly at the midrange market.

The newest entry to the series, the Galaxy M52 5G, has been released in India targeting the upcoming Diwali sale, but we can expect it to be rolled out to the other markets in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G price

Samsung’s official blog lists two variants of the device, the first spotting 6 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 128 GB at a cost of INR 29,999 (Kshs 44,700) while its bigger brother has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage at INR 31,999 (Kshs 47,600).

However, special introductory prices at the beginning of the Great Indian Festival on Amazon have also been provided. The special prices will however be only available for a limited time. The introductory prices are INR 26,999 (Kshs 40,000) for the 6 GB + 128 GB version and INR 28,999 (Kshs 43,000) for the 8 GB + 128 GB variant.

Galaxy M52 5G specifications

What first catches the eye is Samsung mentioning its 5G capabilities with support of 11 5G bands, namely N1, N3, N5, N7, N8, N20, N28, N40, N41, N66 and N78. Supporting 5G already gives the M52 5G, massive advantage in its price bracket over devices that are still locked at 4G.

The device has a triple camera set up, a 64MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 32MP front camera that Samsung calls the best in its class.

A 5,000 mAh battery is what you will get with claims of lasting up to 81 hours of music playtime, 48 hours of voice calls and 20 hours of video playtime. 25W fast charging is also supported.

On the processor side is where things get interesting, with a Snapdragon 778G being packed. Samsung says the new chipset offers 55 percent improved CPU performance, 85 percent improved GPU performance and 3.5 times improvement on the AI performance when compared to its predecessor.

The 6.7-inch FHD+ sAMOLED+ Infinity-O display stays true to the large displays found in the M series. The display will also offer a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Dolby Atmos for premium sound and Gorilla Glass 5 for added display protection are also nice additions.

However, the Galaxy M52 5G is not all good news as there are whispers that it does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is definitely a dealbreaker for me. Being mostly geared as a middle range phone, Samsung has to cut corners to keep the price down, but dropping the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not acceptable in my opinion.

The already existing Samsung Galaxy A52 shares very many similarities with this new model including the same processor, the Snapdragon 778, however the Galaxy M52 has a larger display is thinner and also houses a larger battery.
