“Tweets, but editable”, has been a common phrase over the last few years as increasing demands by users like yours truly to have Twitter allow its users to edit their tweets soared to levels not seen before. There was a glimmer of hope that the planned acquisition of Twitter by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk would result in that finally happening but with that deal running into headwinds, it was still a “wait and see” situation regarding the future of those plans.
After what has seemed like an eternity, we have a confirmation that, we might soon be able to edit our tweets.
Twitter’s Twitter Blue account shared what is, supposedly a tweet that had been edited. The said tweet, as we can see below, even gives us a glimpse of how the feature will look like and work. Like rival Facebook, which rolled out a similar feature, Twitter users will be able to see the edit history of a particular tweet. This should take care of all the concerns around the transparency of posts made on the popular microblogging service.
As is hinted by the nature of the poster, editable tweets will first be rolled out to users of Twitter Blue, Twitter’s premium subscription-based service which already offers its users a bunch of exclusive features including an “undo” tab that pops in the first 30 seconds of a tweet being posted allowing users to go back and revise a mistake quickly before their tweet reaches a wider audience.
We still do not have a timeline as to when the editable tweets feature will be rolled out.
