One UI 4.1.1, Samsung’s custom skin based on Android 12L, first debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Flip 4 introducing improvements and refinements on how the large screen estate of the two devices are utilized.
For instance, a new taskbar was added that makes multitasking easier as well as making it more intuitive to run multiple apps at the same time. This change and the other improvements introduced by Android 12L are now making their way to the previous gen foldables according to a report published on Samsung’s website.
Samsung explains that the One UI 4.1.1 rollout to the Galaxy Fold 3 and the Flip 3 began on the 5th of September in a few countries, but will soon expand to the rest of the world. Once the rollout is complete, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip and the original Fold will then get the same treatment.
For the Galaxy Flip owners, they will now be able to do more with the phone’s cover screen with the One UI 4.1.1 update. The update makes it possible to direct dial your favourite contacts from the outer display, access additional Quick Settings tiles like Wi-Fi and the flashlight and to also reply to messages using voice-to-text or emoji.
Furthermore, the Quick Shot camera feature is getting an update and will allow older Flip phone users to preview and take photos in the correct ratio.
In the same blog post, Samsung also announces that the Galaxy Watch 4 series will receive the One UI Watch 4.5 update. The update introduces six additional interactive watch faces, more personalization options, and a new QWERTY keyboard. However, the company falls short of announcing when this update will go live.
The Galaxy Watch 3 and the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will sadly not get the One UI Watch 4.5 update, instead, Samsung explains that the two devices will receive an ‘independent update’ at the end of September.
This independent update will include a few features introduced by One UI Watch 4.5 including two additional customization options, snore evaluation, and support for key health measurements like blood pressure and ECG in the Health app. Moreover, the ECG and blood pressure monitoring on the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 will further expand to 24 new markets, where the features are already available on the Watch 4 and Watch 5 series.
