The higher midrange almost high-end category has seen interesting times for Samsung over the past few months. The Galaxy S22 FE for instance was not released this year, and hopes for Samsung to release the S23 FE in the coming year are thin at best.
According to Dutch publisher GalaxyClub, it seems likely that we are going to see another casualty in this price bracket, the Galaxy A7X series. The latest addition to this line up, the Galaxy A73 was only available in a few regions and was largely overshadowed by its more affordable brother the Galaxy A53.
GalaxyClub claims to have already heard whisperings of the next models of Samsung’s line-up, including the Galaxy A14, A54, A24 and A34. However, the Galaxy A74 has had no information about it leaked. Furthermore, there have been no mentions of the device being tested or mentions of its firmware. This conspicuous absence makes the publication think that the device does not exist, at least for now.
Should this turn out to be true, it will mean that there will be a significant gap between the next Galaxy A5X series to the Galaxy S series, which are full-blown flagships with the price to match. But how will Samsung fill this gap?
Other manufacturers, especially those from China, have found some joy in releasing devices at this price bracket while having specs that rival those of Samsung’s flagships. Xiaomi and OnePlus, for instance with the Xiaomi 12T and OnePlus 10T, are great examples.
This gap presents an interesting conundrum for Samsung to solve. They can either release a new FE at a much more affordable price, or they can position their past flagships, the Galaxy S22 series in particular, to fill this gap when they ultimately release the Galaxy S23 series. Which path they will take is impossible to tell, but it will be interesting to see how it all unravels.
Finally, until Samsung makes an official statement regarding the Galaxy A7X series, this all remains nothing but speculation at the moment. But with the FE already struggling to gain market share, it might be time for Samsung to rethink how they approach this higher midrange almost flagship bracket.
