Twitter’s subscription service, Twitter Blue, is now available in the country.
The service had initially been available to a handful of countries with Kenyans being left to use a number of workarounds in order to gain access to the service.
Twitter Blue bequeaths on its subscribers the ability to (briefly) edit tweets, send longer tweets, sort their bookmarks in folders, post longer videos, be prioritised in Twitter replies and on the timeline, among other features. Most importantly, Twitter Blue subscribers get the all-important blue verification checkmark that was once the preserve of a chosen few.
The same pricing that has applied in other markets applies to Kenyans. That is, USD 8 when the subscription is activated via the web i.e. away from Apple’s platform which, usually, demands a 30% cut for transactions made through it, bringing the cost to a whole USD 11. So, if you’re getting your blue checkmark via your Android device, you should be fine.
The amounts quoted, at current exchange rates, is anywhere from just over Kshs 1,000 to just under Kshs 1,500 monthly.
One can opt to pay for an annual subscription as well.
