As expected, Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi Note 12 series to the international market. This time around, the series comprises four models, namely; Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 5G and Redmi Note 12 4G. The 4G and 5G versions are officially referred to by the same moniker ‘Note 12’, but we will separate them here in order to avoid confusion.
For the Chinese market, there is also a Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition and a Redmi Note 12 Turbo, but these models will unlikely make their way to the international market, unless under a different name for the Redmi Note 12 Turbo.
Redmi Note 12 Pro+, the most expensive of the four models available in the international market, starts at €500 (around Kshs 70,000) for the 8 GB/ 256 GB version. You can also get this model with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
Key specs here include the 120 W fast charging and a 5,000 mAh battery. It also has an impressive 200 MP main camera, supported by an 8 MP sensor for ultrawide shots and a 2 MP shooter for macro shots. You get a single 16 MP sensor for selfies. The Note 12 Pro+ is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset
Dropping a tier down, the Redmi Note 12 Pro starts at €400 (around Kshs 56,000). With the drop in price, you get 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, although there are variants that offer more up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Furthermore, the main camera gets downgraded to a 50 MP sensor, although the sensors for ultrawide and macro shots remain the same as in the Note Pro+. The fast charging is not spared, getting dropped from 120 W in the Note Pro+ to 67 W here.
The 5G version of the Redmi Note 12 starts at €300 (around Kshs 42,000) with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. There is only one other variant offering 6 GB / 128 GB. Unlike the Note 12 Pro and Note 12 Pro+, the Note 12 5G has the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 powering it instead of the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. The main camera has a 48 MP sensor, with 8 MP for ultrawide shots and another 2 MP sensor for macro shots. The selfie camera has a 13 MP sensor instead of 16 MP, as is the case for the Note 12 Pro and Note 12 Pro+. Fast charging has also been further downgraded here to 33 W capable of filling its 5,000 mAh battery in an hour
Finally, the 4G version of the Redmi Note 12 starts at €200 (around Kshs 28,000) with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It also gets a different chipset, the Snapdragon 685. You can get different RAM/ storage configurations of this device, up to 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage.
Interestingly, the main camera has a 50 MP sensor compared to the 48 MP sensor in the 5G version, however, the rest of the camera set up is identical. The similarities with the 5G version continue, with the charging speed and battery capacity being the same.
Keep in mind though that the prices I have used here are for the European market, and they might slightly differ with the ones we will get in the Kenyan market.
