Hot on the heels of its 5G network launch 5 months ago, Airtel Kenya has announced an ambitious offering to existing and prospective customers: a free 5G Wi-Fi router.
The catch? One just needs to subscribe to any one of the telecommunication’s dedicated 5G data bundles.
The said 5G data bundles are as follows:
- 10 Mbps – Kshs 3,500
- 30 Mbps – Kshs 5,500
- 50 Mbps – Kshs 7,500
“The router also comes with a free power bank/ Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), that helps one to continue browsing in the event of power outages and while on the move,” Airtel says in a statement to newsrooms.
Also, Airtel says the above-mentioned 5G data bundles, which target individuals and SMEs, are unlimited.
Just like rival Safaricom, which leads the country as far as 5G network coverage and users go, Airtel Kenya is also offering individuals volume-based 5G data bundles while businesses get to enjoy bandwidth-based bundles. For instance, a Kshs 3,000 monthly subscription on the home plan gets one 300 gigabytes spread out throughout the month in chunks of 10GB per day.
“The Airtel unlimited 5G plans bring forth connectivity without restrictions, allowing you to browse, stream movies, access high-speed uploads and downloads, and play online games without having to worry about your bundle usage or the rate at which your bundles deplete. This is the perfect definition of ultimate convenience for many people,” the statement from Airtel Kenya reads.
To subscribe to any of the 5G unlimited data plans, one has to visit an Airtel shop so that a technician can subsequently visit their premises for an assessment and, possibly, installation.
Since its launch in July, Airtel Kenya’s 5G network has grown to cover over 30 counties through 100 sites across the country. The network operator aims to have a wider presence in those same counties by increasing the number of sites almost five-fold by the end of the year – which is a few days away.
