One of our best budget phones from 2018, Xiaomi Redmi 6A, and its superior counterpart Xiaomi Redmi 6 were in Xiaomi’s initial Android Pie update plans. But somewhere along the way, there was a change of plans as Xiaomi suspended the recruitment of Redmi 6 and 6A users to Android Pie.
As of this writing, Xiaomi has had another change of plans and now Redmi 6 and 6A users across the globe can submit their interest to test Android Pie. Given that the Global MIUI beta program is no more, the upcoming test version is simply an early build of the Global MIUI 10 stable version based on Pie.
As a result, only those who will have submitted their interest by July 7 will get a chance to install Android Pie ahead of the rest. If selected, you’ll be notified on July 10.
Since the Pie-based MIUI 10 builds coming to the Redmi 6 and 6A are “stable”, we don’t expect Xiaomi to take too much time in testing the software before commencing a wider rollout
Note that you’ll need an unlocked bootloader on your Redmi 6 or 6A in order to install this Pie beta. If unsure what an unlocked bootloader is, you may want to sit out this update and wait for the stable OTA update, probably before the end of this quarter.
