Tecno Phantom 9 is now official. Tecno India recently teased the imminent arrival of the Phantom 9 on its social media channels and today, the device is now official in the Asian sub-continent. It’s only a few days ago that the device was also launched in Nigeria.
The Phantom 8 successor arrives with a triple lens camera on the back and under display fingerprint scanner as some of the major highlights, but you also get other goodies that include a massive 32MP selfie shooter with a dual selfie flash, a Dot Notch display screen with a full HD+ resolution, and lots of AI-based features.
Tecno Phantom 9 specifications
- 6.4-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ AMOLED display screen
- MediaTek Helio P35 octa-core processor
- 6GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage
- Tri-lens main camera: 16MP + 8MP + 2MP
- 32MP front camera
- 3500mAh battery
- Android 9 Pie with HiOS 5.0
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB, 3.5mm audio jack, under-display fingerprint scanner, 4G VoLTE, etc.
Despite the known public preference of Qualcomm-made Snapdragon processors to MediaTek chipsets, Tecno is still going with a Helio P35 chipset from the latter company. How good this chipset is remains to be seen, but considering the competition presented by the likes of Samsung Galaxy A50, Xiaomi Mi A3, and even the Huawei P30 Lite, it’ll take the Phantom 9 some effort to outshine its competitors.
This same chipset is also used in the newly launched Infinix Note 6, but we know the Note series is a step below the Phantom series, which usually competes with the Infinix Zero family of phones.
It gets even worse when it comes to battery capacity vs display size. For a device sporting such a huge 6.4-inch 1080p display screen, having a 3500mAh battery capacity must be the biggest disappointment for Phantom fans. Hopefully, software optimizations will be able to help blur this shortcoming.
Tecno Phantom 9 price and availability in Kenya
In India, the Tecno Phantom 9 will begin selling on July 17 priced at INR 14,999 while those in Nigeria can already grab one at N77,000. These two price tags translate to figures in the regions of Kshs 22,000, which is the price we expect when the phone arrives in the country.
Apparently, the Phantom 9 will arrive in Kenya soon donning a Lapland Aurora finish.
