Xiaomi has already made its name in the midrange category with its offerings capable of going head-to-head with some of its rivals’ flagships devices at almost half the cost. The Redmi Note 11 looks to follow this path taking into consideration information released by the Chinese company ahead of its release.
In a series of teasers published to Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter), Xiaomi detailed the phone’s launch date as well as its key design elements.
Design
The Redmi Note 11 from the pictures appears to have four rear cameras, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which will be a welcome feature for those who are not fans of Bluetooth headphones.
The front display is described as slightly curved, while the phone’s speakers have been sourced from JBL. Official posters put the Note 11 thickness at just 8.34 mm including the camera module.
Variants of the Redmi Note 11
The Redmi Note 11 is believed to have at least 3 variants, the Redmi Note 11 at around Ksh 20,000, Redmi Note 11 Pro at around Ksh 27,000 and the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus at around Ksh 38,000. All these prices are converted from international listings, and the prices could potentially change when they are announced for the Kenyan market.
All the three variants will have different processors powering them with the Note 11 likely to be rocking the MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC, the Note 11 Pro is likely to run on MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC while the most powerful of them all the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus is theorized to have the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 AI SoC under the hood.
Despite having different processing power, the three variants still have a lot in common, including 120Hz displays, 5,000 mAh batteries and onboard storage of up to 256 GB.
Connectivity and features
The teaser published on Weibo confirms the Redmi Note 11 to have support for Bluetooth v5.2, multi-function NFC and Wi-Fi 6. This is also alongside the 3.5 mm audio jack mentioned earlier, a move that is certainly against the grain as most publishers are dropping the feature as a way to reduce the phone’s cost of development.
Wi-Fi 6 has support for real-world speeds of 1.2 Gbps (1,200 Mbps) while Bluetooth v5.2 can transfer data at speeds of up to 50 Mbps while also lowering latency as compared to v5.1 and the now older v4.0.
Launch of the Redmi Note 11
Alongside the teasers, October 28th has been confirmed as the official release date of the Redmi Note 11 with China being the first country to get the smartphone. This makes the decision to post the teasers on Weibo make more sense.
The Chinese company still has not released any information regarding the phone’s release in other markets, but Xiaomi’s growing popularity in new markets including the USA pretty much guarantees we will see the device in our Kenyan shores in the coming weeks or months.
Last month, Xiaomi overtook Samsung and Apple in Europe, claiming first spot for Q2 2021 in terms of phone shipments to the European continent. The Redmi Note 11 succeeds the Redmi Note 10 which only got its release in Kenya in April of this year.
