Oppo is set to launch its latest Reno smartphone series, the Reno 11 series, in Kenya on January 25th.
The Oppo Reno 11 series was announced late last year.
In the country, it will be picking up from where the Reno 10 series left.
Like past Reno series devices before it, the Reno11 series is also part of Oppo’s long-running “Portrait Expert” campaign.
It comprises the standard Reno 11 and a Pro model.
Those who are interested in the devices locally can expect to get a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front and a headlining 50-megapixel sensor at the back with optical image stabilization (OIS) flanked by an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 112º field of view and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens to complete the tri-lens setup. Both cameras can shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second.
The Pro model is powered by a Dimensity 8200 chipset from MediaTek while the standard variant packs a Dimensity 7050 chipset from the same Taiwanese chip maker.
As we have seen previously with past Reno phones, the standard model is keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack while the Pro model does away with it.
The Reno 11 series still prides itself in the same features that have made the Reno smartphone series stand out over the years. These include a slender profile (the devices are just shy of the 8mm thickness mark), the company’s renowned SuperVOOC proprietary fast charging tech. On the Reno 11 Pro, that’s 80W while on the Reno 11 it’s the 67W that we have experienced on the Reno 10 we reviewed 3 months ago, a dual stereo speaker system and more
Of course, front and centre of the user experience is ColorOS 14.
ColorOS 14
ColorOS 14 brings with it many new features as well as upgrades existing ones and sprinkles “AI” everywhere it can, as one would expect of a software system in 2024. It keeps the Aquamorphic design it debuted in 2022 with ColorOS 13 and improves on its nice Always-On Display feature by making it more in sync with today’s climate change-conscious themes.
One of ColorOS 14’s standout features is the new Smart Sidebar which is more or less the same feature as the Smart Panel that we find on Tecno and Infinix smartphones, a nifty shortcut accessible either by swiping from the left or right side edge of the display to access quick shortcuts to pre-selected preferred apps and functions.
On the Smart Sidebar is a File Dock feature, a vault of some sort that allows anything put in there to be easily accessible when one is multi-tasking across apps. This File Dock is where content like text, images, and videos from the system and third-party apps are stored when one uses the AI-powered Smart Touch feature.
A Smart Image Matting makes it easy for users to just crop out objects in photos and videos a la Magic Eraser.
There are also tweaks to boost performance and whatnot.
In short, buyers of the Reno 11 series are getting an upgrade in terms of both the hardware and the software.
Other features and specifications of the Reno 11 series include the 120Hz refresh rate on their 6.7-inch Full HD+ displays.
We expect to have more information on the memory and storage options we’ll be getting locally and their exact pricing at the launch event in a week’s time.
