The Eazzy Banking app from Equity Bank will no longer be available for use from mid-March, the bank has announced.
“The EazzyBanking App will no longer be available from 15th March 2024,” the bank posted on its social media platforms informing users of the impending closure of the app that has been around for almost a decade having launched all the way back in 2016.

Throughout its lifetime, the app has received significant updates meant to make it easier for Equity Bank customers in Kenya and across the East Africa region where the lender has a presence to enjoy various services including being able to open accounts, send money to WhatsApp contacts, friends on Facebook and followers on X (formerly Twitter), using Pesalink (a mobile-based interbank instant money transfer service) and more. At some point, it was even the country’s most downloaded banking application, going by app store numbers and enabled the bank’s customers to transact billions every every year.

However, over the last 2 years, the bank has gradually shifted its attention to a new app it has rolled out and has been actively pushing to its customers: the Equity Mobile app.
It’s this app that has been receiving updates that make it compatible with newer versions of Android as well as adhering to newer Android app design guidelines, leaving the Eazzy Banking app in the cold.
While it continued to work, especially for old users on older devices, updating to a newer device or updating the (Android) operating system version on older/existing smartphones almost always meant breaking the Eazzy Banking app as the bank showed it no love. Eventually, like yours truly did, users would be forced to just transition to the (relatively) new Equity Mobile app.
With this announcement, it is now time to say our goodbyes. The new app is not only better, at least as far as I can tell from my usage since 2022, it also incorporates lots of nifty features and services that the old app never got. Like the ability to generate e-statements on the go. Its most recent service update is even better for those who use Western Union. However, as previously noted, unlike before, you will pay for the corresponding SMS alerts arising from app transactions.
