Xiaomi has taken the wraps of the latest devices from its Redmi sub-brand in Kenya. The Redmi Note 13 series, which is available for purchase in Kenya immediately, comprises the Note 13 Pro+ 5G, the Note 13 Pro and the standard Note 13.
The launch comes a little earlier in the year than was the case last year with the preceding device series.
As was the case with the last generation, the Redmi Note 12 series, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G is the hero device of the series. Alongside the Redmi Note 13 Pro, it features “an ultra-high resolution 200MP camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) to capture photographs with unprecedented levels of detail and bring a flagship-level photography experience to users”, according to Xiaomi. What that statement leaves out is that the OIS is coupled with EIS (electronic image stabilization).
On the standard Redmi Note 13 variant, users can expect to get a 108-megapixel camera. All three smartphones pack 16-megapixel selfie cameras on the front.
Xiaomi has retained much of the features of the Redmi Note 12 series in the Redmi Note 13 series, at least as far as the hardware goes but with some notable upgrades. The biggest gainer in this regard, as far as we can tell, is the middle child, the Redmi Note 13 Pro. It gets a bump up to the Pro+’s 200-megapixel camera as well as the base model, at least in the country, starting at 256 gigabytes.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro+’s standout feature, at least physically, is its curved display, the first such display in the Redmi fold.
As we have come to expect of Xiaomi devices, all the 3 smartphones feature an IR blaster. For the uninitiated, that means an easy way to control most of the electronics in your house. From your television set to your set top box, home theatre and other accessories, if any.
All the three devices feature some form of fast-charging. As was the case last year, it is the Pro+ that keeps the 120W HyperCharge which sees it go from nothing to full in just 19 minutes. The Pro has 67W fast-charging which sees it go from 0 to 100% in 45 minutes and the standard variant’s 33W fast-charging will have it full in just under an hour an a half.
The Redmi Note 13 and Redmi Note 13 Pro users get a 3.5mm headphone jack as well while all the three smartphones get immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
While the Redmi Note 13 series arrives running MIUI 14 (based on Android 13), it is expected to get the HyperOS treatment at some point if what is happening to its predecessor is anything to go by.
