Just when we were getting comfortable with the Galaxy A05 that hit Kenyan shelves in January this year, Samsung has just introduced its successor, the Galaxy A06, in Vietnam. But before you rush to your favorite electronics store, hold your horses — this new budget-friendly beast hasn’t hit Kenyan shores just yet, but there’s plenty to get excited about for when it eventually arrives.
Let’s dive into what the Galaxy A06 is packing.
The A06 is basically the A05’s pumped-up sibling. It’s got the same brain, but it’s flexing its muscles with a bigger, smoother screen. The phone doesn’t stray far from its predecessor, sticking with the same MediaTek Helio G85 chipset used in the Galaxy A05 and a trusty 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, the same as last time out. The A06 is flaunting a couple of noteworthy upgrades: a slick new “Key Island” design and a snazzier display with a 90Hz refresh rate.
The outgoing Galaxy A05 had 4GB RAM on both storage models. But this changes with the Galaxy A06, which gets 4GB RAM on the base 64GB storage model, and 6GB RAM on the high-end 128GB variant.
This device is still very much in budget territory, with a price tag of around $127 (that’s about Kshs 17,000) for the base model in Vietnam. And if you’re into snapping pics, the 50MP primary camera is sure to capture those Instagram-worthy shots with ease. There are no details for the second sensor on the back and selfie shooter, but it’s likely the same 2MP and 8MP units found on the A05, respectively.
For now, the Galaxy A06 is making its debut in Vietnam, with no official word on when it’ll make its grand entrance into Kenya or other markets. But if history is any indication, it’s only a matter of time before this new gadget starts popping up in stores across the country.
So, while we wait for the Galaxy A06 to grace our local shelves, why not start saving up? It might just be the perfect upgrade to kick off the new year with style. Yep, you read that right!
