After almost a month of being on pre-order, Samsung’s 2025 flagship smartphone series, the Galaxy S25, is now officially available for purchase in Kenya.
The series, which comprises the standard Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25+ and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, features several upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 series.
Software upgrades
Top on the list are upgrades to Samsung’s take on mobile Artificial Intelligence (AI) dubbed Galaxy AI. It brings with it updates to AI features first introduced on Samsung devices last year with the Galaxy S24 series like Call Assist, Chat Assist, Interpreter, Transcript Assist and so on.
A new Now Brief button on the devices’ lock screens offers tailored suggestions throughout the day when clicked while the Now Bar, which occupies the same spot as the Now Brief button but shifts its position to the top status bar when one exits the lock screen, keeps one up to date with ongoing activities like, say, active football matches in the English Premier League or ongoing NBA basketball matches or whatever other activity one tracks using Google and other apps.
For those it bothered, long pressing the side (power) button when the device is in use triggers Google’s Gemini virtual assistant most of the time while Samsung’s own Bixby will show up less often but on a needs basis – depending on which Assistant is the most appropriate for the required use.
Hardware upgrades
It’s not just software features that saw an upgrade. On the hardware front, while the devices remain eerily similar to their predecessors, Samsung managed to add some more rounded corners to the series’ hero device, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, throw in a new chipset in the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, add a new telephoto lens on the Galaxy S25 Ultra (upgrading it from 12-megapixels in the S24 Ultra to 50-megapixels in the S25 Ultra) and, if it matters to you, the (S25 Ultra’s) display is a hair larger, thanks to a shrinking of the already tiny bezels that adorned the S25 Ultra’s predecessors.
