Update: March 11, 2025 — What happened during the X outage
Since our initial report yesterday about the global X outage that affected thousands of users, new details have emerged shedding light on the situation. The outage, which disrupted access to both the app and website, has been attributed to a significant cyberattack, according to Elon Musk, X’s owner.
In a post on X yesterday afternoon, Musk stated, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.” Later, in an interview on Fox Business Network’s Kudlow, Musk elaborated, claiming the attack involved “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” though he provided no further evidence to substantiate this. The scale of the disruption, with outages peaking at multiple points throughout Monday, supports the idea of a sophisticated effort.
Adding complexity to the narrative, a pro-Palestinian hacking group known as Dark Storm Team claimed responsibility for the attack via a Telegram post, which was later deleted. However, tracing attacks solely via IP addresses can be unreliable, as attackers often mask their origins, leaving the true source uncertain.
As of now, X has restored functionality for most users, though no official statement from the company has been released beyond Musk’s comments. The incident has sparked debates about X’s security and geopolitical tensions, with Musk’s Ukraine reference drawing attention. But for now, it seems the outage was more than a technical glitch — it was a deliberate strike on one of the world’s biggest platforms.
Original article follows:
If you’re trying to access X (formerly Twitter) right now and failing, you’re not alone. The platform is currently experiencing a massive outage worldwide, with thousands of reports confirming the issue.
As of now, Downdetector has registered nearly 40,000 reports in the past few minutes, indicating that the issue is widespread. Users attempting to access X are encountering various problems, including the app failing to load, the website being unresponsive, and timelines not refreshing.
Reports of the outage are flooding X itself (for those still able to access it), as users confirm that the platform is down for them too. I can personally verify the issue, as I’m also unable to access the platform.
Despite the scale of the outage, X has yet to issue an official acknowledgment or statement regarding the problem. However, given the massive disruption, a fix should be in the works soon.
For now, if you’re wondering whether it’s just you — rest assured, it’s not. We’ll update this article once more details emerge or X provides an official response.
