Google has announced that Gemini Go is now rolling out to Android Go devices which replaces Assistant G
Gemini Go is a streamlined version of Gemini that is designed to say connected and get things done. They confirmed that it replaces Assistant Go, which is what the devices have been using for years.
Google says that it will be rolling out gradually so you may not have the feature yet. However, this depends on which country Gemini is available from (over 150 countries) so there is a high chance of you getting that update.
For users who use Android Go devices which have 2GB of RAM or more, it is available on the Google Search app. You can start a conversation with it by touching and holding the Home button or by pressing and holding the power button. Gemini Go will allow you to call or send texts, find local info, plan your day, upload files or play media.
It is quite sad seeing Google Assistant getting deprecated over time. It was launched back in 2016 as part of Allo and it was pretty great. The service was then deployed to other Android devices and iOS devices in 2017. Google is now hellbent to make sure that they replace their AI powered sections with Gemini and this is one of the changes.
