With the attention on the Galaxy S series, which sits at the top of the smartphone food chain, gone, Samsung is now set to bring its latest Galaxy A series smartphones to Kenya.
According to the company, the devices will be made available in stores countrywide next month (April).
The Galaxy A series smartphones in question include the Samsung Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54.
The announcement is not surprising given that we have seen the company do this over the last 2 years.
Launched mid-this month, the two devices bring 120Hz refresh rates to Samsung’s mid-range smartphone. They also feature the company’s Vision Booster technology.
“Vision Booster is a feature of technology that provide tone mapping for enhanced visibility against strong illumination in outdoor circumstances,” Samsung says on its website.
“If the device recognizes that there is a high level of illumination outdoor so that heavy light reflects on the display, then Vision Booster will be enabled.”
“The new A series range comes with trendy hues, super-viewing experience, ultra-fast processors, enhanced camera capabilities, and power-packed batteries,” says Samsung in a statement.
The two devices also feature IP67 rating for water and dust protection.
Another Galaxy A series smartphone, the Galaxy A24, is set to be launched soon and will also make it to the Kenyan market though we are not sure if it will be among the ones that we get to see next month.
Another device, the Galaxy A14, is also expected to join the lineup in Kenya. The Galaxy A14 just got released yesterday. Like all its other Galaxy Ax4 series siblings, it also has a 5G variant which we are not sure if we will be seeing in the local market. That Galaxy A14 5G variant is the first smartphone that Samsung announced this year.
Normally, no Galaxy A series is complete without a Galaxy A7x in the mix. From what we hear, there will be no such thing this year. The Galaxy A74 is likely to be a no-show this year.
Samsung has previously also axed the Galaxy A8x from its lineup as well. The last device, the Galaxy A80, was made available 4 years ago.
Samsung has had a good run with the Galaxy A series both in the country and globally. In the global market, entry-level offerings in its Galaxy A series have been the saving grace of the Android platform when it comes to the list of best-selling smartphones in the world.
In a list full of iPhones, it is the Galaxy A03 (1.1% market share) and Galaxy A13 (1.6% market share) that broke the monotony as far as sales volumes in 2022 went as per a report released earlier this month.
The Galaxy A54’s ancestor, the Galaxy A51, became a bestseller worldwide the quarter it launched, accounting for 86% of all sales of Android smartphones in Q1 2020, a strong indicator of the Galaxy A series’ appeal both at the entry-level, as can be seen in the sales numbers of the Galaxy A03 and Galaxy A13 as well as at the mid-range level where the Galaxy A5x series sits.
Last quarter, Samsung emerged as the best-selling smartphone brand in the Kenyan market with 31.7% market share.
