Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 devices have been causing buzz in the smartphone industry with their various AI capabilities led by photo-editing tools such as Magic Editor and Generative Edit, respectively. As you may have guessed owing to their names, these are powerful photo editing tools that utilize AI to enhance and transform your images.
Both Magic Editor and Generative Edit excel at removing unwanted objects or people from your photos. But Generative Edit on the Galaxy S24 takes it a step further, allowing you to select and reposition objects within an image and even change their size. Not to be left out, Microsoft is now overhauling its Photos app with a powerful new editing feature dubbed “Generative Erase.” Now available to Windows Insiders across Windows 11, Windows 10, and even Windows on ARM64, this tool utilizes artificial intelligence to seamlessly remove unwanted elements and enhance your photos.
Microsoft says Generative Erase is a smarter version of the classic “Spot Fix” tool that promises to banish distracting objects of any size, from a stray leash to photobombing background figures, leaving behind realistic, natural-looking results. The tech giant’s demonstration highlights its effectiveness, effortlessly making distracting elements vanish, as seen in the before (left) and after (right) image below.
This exciting update aligns the Windows Photos experience with Google and Samsung’s photo apps, placing advanced AI-driven editing at your fingertips. Moreover, Microsoft is expanding the availability of previously Windows 11-exclusive AI editing tools to other users. Windows 10 and Windows for ARM64 users can now enjoy features like “Blur Background” and “Remove and Replace Background,” giving them greater control over the look of their images.
To try out Generative Erase on Windows 11 or Windows 10 and enjoy this enhanced photo editing experience, update your Windows Photos app to version 2024.11020.21001.0 or higher.
