Android users will soon welcome a much-anticipated feature that brings Spotify Connect integration into the operating system’s media output switcher. This means you’ll be able to effortlessly switch between your favorite Spotify Connect devices – speakers, sound systems, and more – without ever opening the Spotify app.
Prior to this, the Android media controls made it simple to switch between Bluetooth devices or those connected via Chromecast. With the latest update, users will be able to easily redirect their Spotify audio to any compatible speakers, soundbars, or other connected devices on their Spotify Connect network. Essentially, this update aims to create a more streamlined music experience. No more fumbling through multiple apps to manage playback; instead, your Spotify Connect devices will now conveniently appear alongside your Bluetooth and Chromecast options.
Announced over a year ago at CES 2023, support for Spotify Connect within the Android media output switcher offers a streamlined music experience, eliminating the need to dive into the Spotify app to hunt for your devices. The update is expected to hit Android devices in the coming weeks.
The delayed roll-out comes alongside another feature known as media notifications. While still in the works, Google envisions a future where your podcast or playlist moves seamlessly with you. You’ll be able to start listening to music in the car, transfer smoothly to your headphones, and finish seamlessly on your home TV. Google is partnering with both Spotify and YouTube Music to make this a reality using their Cross device SDK.
