At the start of the year, Oppo announced the local availability of its Reno11 series smartphones. With a starting price of about Kshs 70,000, those smartphones weren’t exactly within the reach of many in the Kenyan market.
That’s why, we were excited to sample yet another member of the Reno11 series, the Reno11 F, over the past month. That will still set you back a cool Kshs 50,000.
If that’s not within your range, Oppo is back with yet another proposition: a Kshs 30,000 smartphone. The Oppo A60.
Oppo’s A-series smartphone lineup has been around for a while. We’ve even review some past iterations of the more senior members of that series in the A5x lineup like the Oppo A53 we really loved back in the day. That A5x lineup is what is, today, becoming the A6x lineup after exhausting the numeral count. While we have the A60 in for review and we’ll be sharing a lot more with you regarding it, here’s a quick rundown of what you expect to get after spending Kshs 30,000 on it:
- 6.67-inch LCD display with a peak brightness of 950 nits and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz
- 50-megapixel main camera at the back accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor; 8-megapixel front-facing camera
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor
- ColorOS 14.1 (based on Android 14)
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot)
- 5,000mAh battery
- 45W (SuperVOOC) fast charging (50% charge in just half an hour)
- IP54 water and dust resistance
- 3.5mm headphone jack, and,
- NFC.
Not listed above but making up for a big part of the Oppo A60’s publicity going forward is the “military-grade shock resistance” touted by its maker. This is the first Oppo smartphone, as far as our experience goes, to be marketed as one that can survive a fall.
“Experience awesome shock protection, so that an accidental drop goes from “ah!” to “ah…never mind,” Oppo says in promotional material seen by Android Kenya.
Another thing: remember that Ultra Volume Mode feature that we loved so much when we encountered it for the first time on the Reno8 T? Well, while it has lived on in every Oppo smartphone we have reviewed since, it gets a nice bump on the A60: sound is now jacked up all the way to 300%! That’s insane and should, at least on paper, work very well with the dual stereo speaker setup on the device.
The device comes in Ripple Blue and Midnight Purple and is available across the country through both online and offline sales channels.
