Oppo F5 to feature AI-powered selfie camera and 18:9 display aspect ratio, launch set for October 26

Oppo F5

In early May, the Oppo F3 was unveiled, but it took about two weeks before the phone hit the local shelves priced at Ksh 33,000.

Dubbed the Selfie Expert, the Oppo F3 and the entire Oppo F series put a lot of emphasis on the selfie camera, ensuring that it stands out as the phone’s or rather the series’ unique selling point. The current model, for instance, has a 16MP+8MP dual-lens front camera that promises to deliver the best shots you can ever imagine on a midrange phone.

Where the 16MP shooter captures high-quality selfies with the help of beautification technology, the second sensor, which has an 8MP lens, captures wide-angle shots that make the Oppo F3 the perfect phone when taking group selfies. Due to China’s belief that the number 4 is a bad omen (tetraphobia), the company won’t be releasing the Oppo F4, instead, a new Oppo F5 is getting ready for an October 26 unveiling and the company, just like the fanbase, can’t wait for this day to arrive.

To keep fans eager and yearning for the Oppo F5, the Chinese OEM has released a teaser image that highlights the usual USP of the Oppo F series – the selfie camera. According to the teaser, the F5 will come with an AI-powered selfie camera to take the beautification technology to the next level, but how the phone will be wired to take advantage of this powerful technology is still unknown.

In addition to the camera, we also know that the Oppo F5 will ship with a full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels), which means it will be getting an 18:9 aspect ratio, just like the LG G6, LG Q6 and LG V30, among other phones. The Galaxy S8 and Note 8 have a unique aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Like before, the phone will be available for purchase in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam and hopefully, Kenya too.
