Oppo is set to officially launch its Reno10 series in Kenya in a week’s time.
The Reno10 series is the successor to the Reno8 series in Kenya since Oppo sidestepped Kenya and the African market when it came to the rollout and availability of the Reno9 series.
For years now, Oppo has offered its Reno series in Kenya and the Chinese brand is looking to continue betting on the local market with its latest super mid-range devices in the Reno9 series.
The word “super” is used generously to describe Oppo’s Reno series because, at least from our interactions with the devices (since the Reno3), they have proven to be what Oppo says they are: beautiful, dependable smartphones that offer a lot of what is current in the tech world at at least half of what it would take elsewhere while barely cutting any corners.
One of the devices under the series that Kenyans can expect to see on store shelves after the launch is the Oppo Reno10 5G, a fitting upgrade from the Reno8 5G we reviewed last year that packs a 5,000mAh battery like its predecessor but has a new chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 7050, a bigger 6.7-inch Full HD+ display panel with an even higher 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection as well as upgraded optics at the back (there’s a 64-megapixel main sensor backed by a 32-megapixel telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor).
However, on the front, Oppo has retained the same IMX709 image sensor from Sony that we had on the Reno8 5G.
“The Reno10 series is designed to help users shoot natural, ultra-clear portraits in any situation, continuing to live up to the Reno series’ role as ‘The Portrait Expert’,” Oppo says in a statement.
Like its predecessor, users of the Reno10 5G will enjoy the 256GB onboard storage and the 8GB RAM.
Traditionally, Oppo has not offered the Pro variants of a Reno series device in the country and we don’t expect the Reno10 to break that tradition. So, the Reno10 5G and, perhaps, a 4G variant, might be all that we are getting. At least for now.
