Oppo Kenya has started selling some of its smartphones directly through their local website. Usually, the website is used to showcase the company’s line of smartphones sold locally with an overview of the features and specs. However, recently when visiting the site I noticed some product pages now have a “Buy now” option next to the “Overview” and “Specs” buttons.
Clicking on this option opens a new page titled “Oppo, powered by ShipShap” with a form for filling your order’s details. The page also has ShipShap’s contact number and a section showing the price of the phone you’re about to order alongside a few specs and color picker. Once you fill in the details and save your address, a new payment page opens with the total bill, including shipping charges, and option to pay via M-PESA or credit card.
The Oppo Kenya website currently has 19 smartphones namely Oppo Find N2 Flip, Find X5, Reno11, Reno11 Pro, Reno10, Reno10 Pro, Reno8, Reno8 5G, Reno8 T, Reno8 T 5G, A98 5G, A96, A78, A77, A77s, A58, A57, A38, and A18. However, only a handful are available to buy directly through the Oppo Kenya website, namely Reno10, Reno10 Pro, A98 5G, A78, and A58. That’s way too small a number, but the steps are definitely heading in the right direction.
While I couldn’t find specific confirmation of a direct partnership between ShipShap and Oppo Kenya, it’s possible Oppo Kenya could be using the ShipShap API on their website to streamline their shipping processes. This would allow them to offer real-time tracking and probably even automated label generation. After all, this is part of what the company does, as per their official website.
I’ve reached out to both Oppo Kenya and ShipShap for a comment on their relationship. I’ll be back with any updates if and when available.
