Samsung has today announced that they are introducing AirDrop support to the Galaxy S26 series who want to share content via Quick Share.
According to the company, this feature will start rolling out today starting in Korea and will expand to more regions including Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, South Asia and Taiwan.
As mentioned before, Samsung says that this will be initially be available to the Galaxy S26 series and will announce when the feature will be expanded to other devices.
Last month, Google had hinted that the AirDrop hack that they launched on Pixel devices in November 2025 will be released to more Android devices this year.
What does the AirDrop via QuickShare do?
Well, it allows your Android phone to share files between iPhones easier. AirDrop has been one of those quintessential ecosystem lock features that Apple has which work well in the Apple ecosystem but lock everyone out of that ecosystem. Google found a way to circumnavigate that and released to the Pixel 10 devices first, and now Samsung is releasing it for the Galaxy S26 series first. Other companies like Nothing have also confirmed to be testing the feature for ther phones, so expect this to be rolled out by others this year.
The other question is, does this matter enough to make people switch from the Apple ecosystem to Google’s ecosystem? The answer is probably no because Apple’s moat is big enough to retain its users with a variety of hardware and software strong points. In countries outside North America, the moat is not strong because it is predominantly a Google monopoly of sorts, so this matters most to Western countries.
