Oppo is gearing to show the world what it has in store for users of its smartphones which run its own modified version of Android dubbed ColorOS.
Once a shameless iOS clone, ColorOS has grown over the past decade to develop its own identity and become one of the custom user interfaces that we actually find very usable – as can be seen in our reviews over the years.
Whereas Oppo continued with its boring approach of doing some visual overhauls here and there (hello Aquamorphic and Aqua Dynamics designs) with both ColorOS 13 and ColorOS 14, with a sprinkle of AI (Artificial Intelligence) features in the latter, the Chinese company is now expected to follow the industry-wide trend of doubling down on the current AI hype.
We have seen sprinkles of what the AI hype from Oppo can look like with the launch of the Reno12 series in Kenya – and other markets – a few weeks ago. The device brought with it some features that have been around on other devices by competitors like Google (Pixel) and Samsung (Galaxy) like “magic” erase feature as well as some unique ones like the AI Link Boost feature which tunes a range of services on the device in order to give users the best possible experience.
Based on the upcoming Android 15, ColorOS 15 is expected to bring with it system-level AI integration to Oppo devices.
Its predecessor ColorOS 14 only had a sprinkle of these features at launch (like Smart Touch) and grew subsequently with point releases like ColorOS 14.1 which includes the aforementioned Link Boost, Beacon Link (which intelligently addresses the problem of intermittent signal) and some other features like AI Clear Face.
ColorOS 15 will be revealed at the upcoming Oppo Developer Conference next month – on October 17 – in Hangzhou, China
