Samsung has made significant changes to its device security update schedule, prioritizing its latest flagship while dropping support for several older models.
The good news is the recently released Galaxy S24 series, including the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, have joined the coveted list of devices receiving monthly security updates. This ensures users have the latest protections against emerging threats for the next 7 years to come. However, several devices have been downgraded or delisted altogether.
Both the Galaxy Tab S6 (LTE and 5G) and the Galaxy A01 will no longer receive regular updates. The Tab S6 Lite remains on the schedule with quarterly updates, but Samsung will still address any serious security vulnerabilities discovered in the Tab S6’s operating system with an exclusive update. But perhaps the most high-profile change concerns the popular Galaxy A51. Previously enjoying biannual updates, only the 5G version will continue to receive them. Unfortunately, the LTE A51 has been completely removed from the update list, leaving its users potentially vulnerable.
Samsung has also downgraded the Galaxy Tab A8 and Galaxy A03 to biannual updates, meaning they will receive security patches twice a year instead of four times. If anything, this signals that support for these devices is coming to an end. You can check out these changes on the official Samsung security updates page.
These changes highlight Samsung’s commitment to prioritizing software security for its newer devices. While older models may lose support over time, you may want to consider upgrading to benefit from the latest Samsung security features and performance improvements, including the latest Galaxy AI tools.
